Here we are for 1 night at the Sturgis Car Museum. We got in just before it closed but were still able to get a tour of their incredible collection of, wait for it....., SAAB automobiles :) They have an, IMO, incredible gathering automobiles. I learned so many facts on the history of SAAB. I'll never remember most of them but we had loads of fun hearing our tour guide/owner talk of his passion with these SAABs :) Ford and Willys supplied the military with their iconic vehicles. Jeep had to redesign the grille to copyright their version and SAAB later build this version since Ford and Willys couldn't keep up with post war demand. It was primarily built for Sweden's defense and export business. This SAAB was loaned to Jerry Seinfeld for one of his episodes. Her is a SAAB that was designed to test runway surface conditions for aircraft takeoff and landings. They even had a car that needed a wheelie bar and drag chute :) John Wilkes Booth jumped off the stage, after shooting President Lincoln, and broke his leg. He evaded to Dr Samuel Mudd's residence and had Dr Mudd set it. Booth then left and was captured later. After investigation, Dr Mudd was charged and found guilty of aiding Booth whom he had never met before. He was 1 vote away from hanging and was given a life sentence. Cholera broke out and most doctors within the prison died so Mudd volunteered his skills to save many of the prisoners. He was released because of his help in saving so many. His name was never cleared and his descendants continue to try and clear his name. Below is the SAAB that belonged to the great grandson of Dr Mudd. Everything on these 2 halves functions, including the steering, except the drive drain. Guess what................ They even made a fiberglass trailer :)
